Eighty percent of Indonesians still live in poverty as a result of the lack of knowledge and comprehension of their possession. We understand that change requires more than charity, which can be done by changing the way Indonesians see themselves and their environment.
BETTER FUTURE for Indonesia is a foundation that recognizes the requirement of a long-term investment in order to see changes in a society by educating students, parents, and teachers. Specifically, BETTER FUTURE highlights the vital importance of investing in children's early years development in the remote areas of Indonesia. In 2003, starting with one school for the under-privileged in Jakarta (Mutiara Bagi Bangsa), we have now expanded to over 20 schools in various provinces. Character and academic improvements in children from ages 3 to 8 years have been evident in our students and their testimony brings encouragement to parents. With changes seen in the students’ mindset and behavior, parents are then encouraged to be more involved in the education of their children. Being in a remote and under-developed area, the community itself cannot afford to build school houses or hire teachers; it is the heart of BETTER FUTURE to fully support the needs of the communities throughout the provinces. Due to the many different needs and only few laborers, we equip and train volunteers to understand the mission in education, its long-term goals, and the value of thinking skills, integrity, and discipline. Through BETTER FUTURE, we are able to recruit more teachers by training new volunteers. BETTER FUTURE also seeks to distribute goods by providing basic school resources to be allocated to the different provinces. We wish to supply all of our schools with any resource that they need in order for them to achieve education. We also view the different needs as an opportunity to serve the community by recruiting youth volunteers that are called to missions work. Volunteer intakes are held every July for one month in the assigned community. All volunteers are required to attend a two-week training at our headquearters in Jakarta prior to the missions work. The training will help volunteers to be equipped and prepared for cross-cultural work in the mission field. |
